Tim Hirons (Tenor) comes from a singing, music-loving family and enjoys music in diverse styles and forms. He joined the Detroit Concert Choir in the fall of 2003. He had no formal singing education or experience prior to his audition, although 5 years of school band education (trumpet and baritone) and 4 years of piano lessons in his youth provided a musical foundation. Tim has since studied voice with Cynthia Webster, former DCC lead soprano and current guest soloist. He is very thankful for the opportunity to learn from such a dedicated and gifted choir director in Gordon Nelson. Tim consistently appreciates the “work” of learning great pieces with so many talented people – the craft of creating beautiful music together being a truly transcendent and sublime experience! It is a rare opportunity and a rich blessing in his life to be among good friends who share his love of choral music. Tim was very excited to compete with the DCC in the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in North Wales in 2006, winning 1st Place awards in the Men’s and Folk Divisions and 3rd Place in the Mixed Choir Division.
Tim graduated from Taylor University with a degree in Business and Systems and co-owns http://www.partybanners.com/ in Rochester Hills with his brother. He spends his free time enjoying music, travel, reading, cooking, photography, sports and other hobbies. Tim believes some of God’s greatest gifts are voices that share blissful sounds.
“I think I should have no other mortal wants, if I could always have plenty of music. It seems to infuse strength into my limbs and ideas into my brain. Life seems to go on without effort, when I am filled with music.” ~ George Eliot “Music is God's gift to man [and woman], the only art of Heaven given to earth, the only art of earth we take to Heaven.” ~ Walter Savage Landor
