Diana (Barone) Thornbury, (Soprano) began singing in her church and high school choirs as a youth. After high school she attended Valparaiso University in Valparaiso Indiana. While earning her Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree, she was a member of the University’s 150 voice Chapel Choir, and the Kantorei Chamber Choir. (The University boasts the largest University Chapel in the country!) She was also a charter member of Valpo’s Liturgical Dance Troupe, and a member and captain of the Pom –Pon team. Dancing with the University Dance Troupe for four years and directing the troupe her senior year rounded out her dance and musical experience at Valpo.
After hearing an ad on WNIC for auditions, Diana joined the Detroit Concert Choir in the fall of 1987, one year after it’s inception, and has been a member ever since. She has participated in nearly all of the International Competitions that the DCC has been a part of, traveling with them to North Wales on three occasions, Ireland, Spain, Austria and Italy. Her most special memory with the choir is being on stage with Gordon and the choir in North Wales in 1996 at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod and singing in the Choir of the World competition. Even more special was winning the coveted Choir of the World award!! “Singing with Gordon and the DCC has been so rewarding in so many ways musically, personally and spiritually. I have made many lifelong friends and have learned so much. To be part of a group that creates such amazing music is truly awe inspiring.”
Diana works as a Registered Nurse Research Coordinator in the GI Hepatology Department of the Henry Ford Health System. She lives in Grosse Pointe Woods with her husband Stan and their two dogs. Her daughter Alyssa attends Michigan State University, and son Quennton will be graduating in December from Eastern Michigan University with a BA in Music, Music Media Production and French. Stan is a frequent volunteer for the choir when he has the time. He owns Malty Dog Brewery and Supplies located in Southfield. You can visit his website at www.maltydogbrewery.com.
